Have you ever thought about making your own stage costumes? The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts organised the "Creative Journey - Set & Costume Design Exhibition & Workshop 2021" on 21 and 22 July 2021 to give secondary school students the chance to exercise their creativity in costume making and stimulate their interest in theatre and entertainment arts.
In the first part, students visited the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts Graduate Exhibition and enjoyed a guided tour led by two of the School's graduates. The students were fascinated with the wonderful sets, props and costumes. They asked thoughtful questions to gain a deeper understanding of the design concepts, production process and techniques used in making the exhibits.
After getting some inspiration from the exhibition, the students had the opportunity to create their own costumes in the Costume Making Workshop. They came up with creative ways to manipulate materials such as fabrics and newspaper and transformed themselves into the characters in classical paintings. As the models showed off their team’s creations, they were received with enthusiastic applause and cheers.

Earlier in June, several groups of secondary school students attended the Academy's School of Dance Summer Performances and the Drama Open Dress Rehearsal for You're a Good man, Charlie Brown. They were very impressed with the performances and showed interest in backstage operations.
The Creative Journey Outreach Programme will return in the next school year with a series of exciting performing arts performances and programmes. Join us as a Young Friends of the Academy member now and stayed tuned on our website, Instagram and Facebook!
